Will your sandcastle withstand the weathering forces of nature?
To simulate weathering processes on rocks and the Earth’s surface take your class on a trip to the beach, or simply the nearest sandpit.
In groups of three, students begin by building a sandcastle. Once their masterpiece is completed, provide each group member with a role – Biological Weatherer, Physical Weatherer or Chemical Weatherer. Students must follow the steps on their information card to slowly weather away their sandcastle.
Take photos of each weathering effect and have students use these to create storybooks on their magical castles being washed, blown and burrowed away!
