Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne is set in south-west Kenya. It features beautifully illustrated flora and fauna and is a great introduction to the idea of subtraction in Mathematics.  Handa chooses fruit to take as a surprise to her friend in another village.  Little does she know,  some very cheeky animals have been helping themselves to her basket of  fruit.

 

 

 

 Play Prompt ~ Broccoli Jungle

Art Prompt ~ Fruit Printing

This art prompt is one many of us will remember from our childhoods yet we often forget to try it with our own children.  Simply cut fruit in half so your children can paint them and print.  We used paintbrushes to add the paint as it is easier to clean, but you can use paint on a sponge tray.
